The most expensive thing that you will buy in life is often that which has the cheapest initial price. All too often, it breaks, you end up buying it over and over again, and each time it costs you more.
I do not like war.
I live and work at nuclear ground zero, and have all of my life.
I am concerned, I am not worried.
Peace through appeasement is a foolish purchase.
The price is freedom.
I choose not to pay that price.
I received an e-mail this afternoon from someone that I've known for a very long time and am very close with. It contained a link to a piece on the web and was presented as evidence for concerns that had been previously expressed.
I read it through, once, and then a second time, very carefully. It was presented in such a way as to foretell what will happen when hostilities break out. It had some mostly self evident truths, it had some half truths, and it had some outright self serving deliberate fabrications.
A war is won when you defeat your enemies will to resist. As such, we have been in a psychological war, a propaganda war for months, and we are all being bombarded.
We have been trying to scare them. They have been trying to scare us. Both sides have scored some pretty direct hits.
Please, no matter how you feel in the matter, take the time to analyze what you read. Is the writer telling the truth? Can it be verified? Does it make sense? Or is he trying to scare you? Ask yourselves the questions and act on the answers accordingly.
Dealing with the concept of war is hard enough.
Dealing with hysteria makes it harder.
.... and, I promise to remain a bit skeptical myself.
