Just For the Fun of It.....,

Randy and I went shooting together today. She as a working professional, specializing in birds, and I just for the fun of it. These were on our "to-do" list. We've known about them for a while, and managed to find them fairly quickly. They are living in the wild within the US, and are not a native species.

I'm not going to identify them for now, but will eventually.

The challenge - without going to Google or any other part of the net - what are they, where were we, and how did they come to be here?
....and, as a left handed clue, they are not the first bird that you would think of when you see them.
