I Think I Just Added a Species...,

This morning, as I was preparing breakfast, I glanced out the window over the kitchen sink .
The usual mix of at least a dozen juncos and sparrows were on the deck, but one of the "sparrows" was a bit different.
It might have been slightly smaller, was likely a female, and had a full blended red breast.
Can someone identify this one?
Also, as a more general question, since mating season is right around the corner [despite the temperature of the minute] are many of them already close to full mating colors?
